Rastrelli Cello Quartet
ensemble
Each of these exceptional young musicians learned to say “cello” before he’d learned to say his own name. However, since founding the quartet in Stuttgart in 2002 they have started to forget the name of their instrumentóthey have intentionally omitted from their repertoire any pieces composed especially for cello quartet, concentrating instead on the widest range of classical, pop, and jazz, hoping their audiences hear the saxophone, the ragtime-battered piano, the bandoneon! Three of the four musicians were born and studied in St. Petersburg, and hence the quartet name “Rastrelli” after the Italian architect who has build a lot in the Peter the Great’s capital.
